
Rocco Rescigno, born in Udine in 1992, received his first lessons at the age of six at the music school in Passons (Udine). The piano was his first instrument, later followed by the organ, trombone and the saxophone.
Since September 2008, he has been studying trombone at the J. Tomadini Conservatory of Music in Udine with Prof. Domenico Lazzaroni, where he graduated in 2011 with top marks and honours. During his early studies, he was selected for the Central European Initiative Youth Orchestra and the National Orchestra of the Conservatories of Italy.
In 2011, he began his ‘Bachelor of Music’ in the trombone class of Professors Stefan Schulz, Andreas Klein, and Reiner Vogt at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 2014, he received scholarships from the Rotary Club Perg and the DAAD Foundation. In July 2015, he completed his studies, receiving the accolade of ‘Outstanding Student of the UdK Berlin’ from the university’s art department. Under Prof. Schulz, he continued his studies with the ‘Master of Music’ and ‘Konzertexamen’, concluding the entire musical program with top marks.
In 2015, he joined the Karajan Akademie of the Berliner Philharmoniker, with Prof. Christhard Gössling as his main mentor. During his time at the academy, he participated in numerous tours, the Baden-Baden and Ruhrresidenz Festivals, CD productions, and chamber music projects (Berliner Philharmoniker Brass Ensemble, Scharoun Ensemble). During this period, he gained valuable orchestral experience working with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Daniel Harding, Iván Fischer, Tugan Sokhiev, Marek Janowski, Daniele Gatti, and Gustavo Dudamel. During his two years with the Philharmonic, he furthered his collaboration with other orchestras in the German capital, including the Berliner Staatsoper, Komische Oper, Deutsche Oper, and DSO Berlin.
In 2016, he was accepted into the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, traveling across Europe and performing live in London (Proms), Amsterdam (Mahler Festival), and Berlin (Young Euro Classic).
Since the 2017/2018 season, he has been the First Trombone Soloist of the Duisburger Philharmoniker / Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
As an orchestral musician, he actively collaborates with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Berliner Philharmoniker, Münchner Philharmoniker, and the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks.
Since 2020, he has held the position of Associate Professor of Trombone at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen. He has an intense brass coaching activity, especially with youth orchestras such as the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Landesjugendblasorchester Rheinland-Pfalz, Esyo Youth Orchestra, and Music System Italy.
An important part of his work is his connection with contemporary solo trombone music. Since 2015, he has collaborated as a soloist with the TKE association, premiering more than 40 new works, all of which have been broadcast and recorded live on Radio Cemat and Radio RAI.An important part of his work is the connection with contemporary solo trombone music.
In 2021, he was the trombone soloist in the world premiere of the opera Die Unbedingte Dinge by the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg and the composer duo Merzouga. He also recorded with broadcasters such as BR, Arte, WDR, RBB, Vatican Radio, and Teldex Studios.
In 2021, he recorded Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra with the Duisburger Philharmoniker and Axel Kober, which was performed live again in 2022. The recording of the concerto has become a reference in the international trombone scene, even being praised by the Henri Tomasi Association in Marseille, with its President Jacques Bonnadier offering high praise.
